KARACHI, Aug 17: The consultancy committee of the city government has decided to devolve the malaria department to the towns.

The towns now will be responsible for action against flies, mosquitoes and stray dogs.

The consultancy committee which met at the Civic Centre under the chairmanship of the city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, decided that the entire staff of the malaria department along with the machinery and other resources would be handed over to the towns with immediate effect and each town would be provided one vehicle along with spray machines.

In order to develop greenery and plantation of trees, it was decided that the city government would provide each town with two water tankers to feed treated sewerage water to roadside plantations and the green belts of the central islands.

According to another decision, each town will develop 20 parks. It was made clear at the meeting that hoardings were the responsibility of the city government for which the city council would approve the bylaws. No hoarding will be allowed till the bylaws are approved.

The meeting was informed that the city government would construct two sports grounds in each Town. A uniform policy including forms, fees and other material would be formulated for all the union councils in respect of births and deaths.

According to another decision, a coordinated campaign of plantation within the premises of schools and colleges and in the surrounding areas would be launched.—APP
