SHIKARPUR, March 28 Seven people, including a minor girl, who were killed in two attacks on Saturday, were buried in two villages on Sunday.
Three gunmen of Kalhoro tribe allegedly shot dead a notable of the area, Raja Khan Mangnejo, who was at a shop in Madeji.
Soon afterwards, a large number of Mangnejo tribesmen from different villages gathered in his village and then proceeded to Jindal Kalhoro village in the kutcha area to attack the Kalhoros.
They set the village on fire and opened fire, killing Nooral, Meeral, Abdul Samad and Fateh Mohammad, all Kalhoros. Raja Khan's nephew Liaquat Ali Mangnejo was killed when the Kalhoros fired back.
Sources said that three-year-old girl Nafisa, daughter of Roshan Kalhoro, was burnt to death in the fire.
After the attack, the kutcha area became virtual 'no go area' and residents fear that a clash between the rival tribes may erupt any time.
The Kalhoros were buried by their neighbours because their relatives avoided attending the funeral for the fear of the Mangnejos.
No arrest was made till late Sunday evening. Police are said to be planning an operation to arrest those involved in the murder of Raja Khan and the subsequent assault on the Kalhoros.
Raja Khan is reported to have been killed because of a dispute over an incident of honour killing.
When contacted, DIG of Larkana Sanaullah Abbasi admitted that police had failed to take measures to prevent the attack. He said that an inquiry committee had been constituted.
A police post had been set up in the area, he said, adding that clashes might erupt after the police moved out.
Women of Kalhoro tribe were sitting at the area police station to lodge an FIR but no case had been registered till late night. None from the Mangnejos had gone there to lodge an FIR, the DIG said.
