RAWALPINDI, Aug 15: The district government has purchased 2,000 kanals of land to establish a labour colony, said district Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani on Wednesday.

He was speaking at the labour rally held in connection with the Independence Day.

He said the funds for the land have been taken from the workers welfare fund and the contract for development of the site has been given to Nespak.

The Nazim said allotment of plots would start as soon as the no-objection certificate (NOC) is received from the agency concerned for which an application has been moved.

The labour and community development departments have been instructed to ensure implementation of labour rules concerning workers’welfare.

He restated the resolve of his district government to work for the welfare of the workers, who were playing a vital role in the development of the country.

Speaking to the officials of the district government at the flag-hoisting ceremony at the secretariat, he urged them to set an example of good governance and perform their responsibilities honestly and with dedication.
