PESHAWAR, Nov 7: Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Omar Asghar Khan has said that the dwellers of kutcha abadis would be granted ownership rights soon.

Talking to various delegations of kutcha abadis’ dwellers here on Wednesday, the minister assured them that there would be no forceful evacuation of the residents of these dwellings in future.

The representatives of kutcha abadis apprised the minister of their problems and demanded either speedy allotment of alternate sites or regularization of the existing settlements.

The minister assured them of early solution of their problems, saying that all the four provinces had been directed to speed up the process of granting proprietary rights to the residents of kutcha abadis.

The land-owning institutions and departments would issue no-objection certificates in this regard to solve the problem once and for all, he added.

Mr Khan said that in case the kutcha abadis were located in sensitive areas, the residents would be given alternate land, not less than three marla, on affordable rates.

He said there would be no summary evacuation of the residents of kutcha abadis as the government believed in providing shelter to the shelterless.

The basic facilities to the kutcha abadis would be provided under the Khushal Pakistan Programme and district and city governments development funds.
