PESHAWAR, Aug 15: The foundation-stone of the new assembly hall was laid down on Wednesday. NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah launched the work by unveiling a plaque.

The new hall will be constructed on the western side of the existing building having the capacity of 200 seats, besides chambers and offices for the leaders of treasury and opposition benches and committee rooms.

The governor paid tribute to the parliamentarians of the past whose contribution, he remarked, was a great source of encouragement for the politicians of the day.

He stressed the need for consolidating the institutions, and expressed the confidence that the proceedings to be carried out in the new hall would not only be depiction of people’s aspirations but would also help protect their rights and freedom.

He hoped that the decisions to be taken in the house would not only guarantee the well-being and prosperity of the province but would also promote fraternity and cohesion among people.
