NEW DELHI, Aug 12: The Lok Sabha (India’s lower house of parliament) was on Monday adjourned amid uproar over the alleged allotment of fuel stations and cooking gas agencies to friends and relatives of members of the ruling BJP.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day, while the Rajya Sabha (upper house) was adjourned for an hour until midday as MPs staged protests and refused to take their seats.

Last week Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee cancelled all allotments of fuel stations and cooking gas agencies since Jan 2000, but the opposition is demanding the resignation of Petroleum Minister Ram Naik.—AFP
