PESHAWAR, Aug 11: Two alleged carjackers were killed on Saturday night here at the Hayatabad town, in an encounter with the capital city police.

Officials of the Hayatabad Police Station said they had got information that a group of carlifters would sneak into phase-6 of the township from the adjacent Khyber Agency.

When the accused entered the area about 12.30am, the police party had already laid a siege to the pointed area.

The carjackers, sensing the danger, had resorted to indiscriminate firing which police returned, and this exchange of fire continued for over an hour, the police said.

Two of the carjackers were killed on the spot and the police identified them as Rehman and Ghulam Abbas, residents of tehsil Bara, Khyber Agency. Their other accomplices managed to fled.

Police officials claimed that the outlaws were wanted in the kidnapping of Dr Inayet Roghani, brother of Provincial Health Minister Dr Mehar Taj Roghani, and in many other carlifting and abduction cases.
