Bomb explodes near mosque

HARIPUR, Aug 10: A low intensity indigenous bomb exploded near a mosque, damaging a portion of its uncemented structure and wall of a nearby house in Mohalla Session House, here on Saturday morning.

No loss of life or injury to anyone was, however, reported. The explosion caused panic among the residents of surrounding houses, who came out of their homes and rushed to the site of the explosion.

The local police, ruling out the chances of any terrorist act, were of the view that the device, planted near the boundary wall of the house of one Majeed Khan, was a dynamite rather than a bomb.

According to the residents of the neighbourhood they were busy taking breakfast when they heard the loud sound of the explosion, and when they reached the scene they saw a 2x2 feet whole in the boundary wall of the house of Majeed Khan.

The explosion also damaged the uncemented kitchen of the nearby Masjid and left a crater of about 2.5x2 feet where it was planted.

When the family of Majeed Khan was contacted it denied having enmity with anyone.

Meanwhile, the police have recovered some of the remains of the exploded device and are investigating the incident, reports our correspondent.
