HYDERABAD, Aug: 9: The members of the District Council on Thursday demanded of the government and the Election Commission not to prevent the Nazimeen of union, taluka and district councils from contesting the general elections.

The session also called for taking action against the officials of NADRA for the inordinate delay in issuing computerized NICs.

Hussain Bux Hussaini tabled a resolution in the session stating that the Election Commission had set a prerequisite for the union council, Tehsil and district Nazimeen to resign if they were interested in contesting the general elections.

Mr Hussaini said that it appeared improper as the Naib Nazimeen were allowed to contest the elections by simultaneously holding their own office.

He called upon the government to allow the Nazimeen as well to contest the elections and in case they win the elections they should resign from one of the offices.

In another resolution, he drew the attention of the session to the fact that while the general elections were approaching, the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) had not issued computerized national identity cards to the people despite the fact that the people had deposited their forms 10 monthsago.

He showed two NICs, issued by the NADRA office in Hyderabad, which had been issued to an individual under different names.

The council also called upon the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) to announce payment of honorarium for them on the pattern of the district governments in Balochistan.

A resolution to this effect was moved by Syed Ali Mohammed Shah of the Union Council Zeir Peer.

He referred to a news report of July that a notification had been issued in Balochistan, mentioning the payment of honorarium for the Nazimeen, Naib Nazimeen, and the councillors of the district governments in Balochistan province.

He said that according to that notification each Union Council Nazim would get Rs5,000 and his deputy would get Rs300 whereas a member of the District Council would receive Rs1,000 per month as honorarium.

Mr Shah called upon the National Reconstruction Bureau to announce the same for the district government of Hyderabad.

He said that those members who had been elected on reserved seats of labour, women, and minority should also be given payment equivalent to the union council Nazimeen.
