NAWABSHAH, Nov 6: Six of the seven dialysis machines at the People’s Medical College Hospital (PMCH), Nawabshah, have been out of order for three years due to lack of funds for their repair, forcing patients suffering from urological problems to seek treatment either at Hyderabad or Karachi hospitals.
According to PMCH’s urology department in-change, Dr Nazeer Memon, five machines had not been working for three to four years and one stopped working last year. Now all the patients depend on one machine that is operative, he said.
Due to the problem, patients from Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Dadu, Sanghar and Khairpur have to go to Hyderabad and Karachi for treatment.
He said that the repair of each machine would require Rs50,000 but funds for the purpose were not released despite several reminders sent to the higher authorities by the medical superintendents at different times.
FARYAL’S GESTURE: Nawabshah District Nazim Faryal Talpur on Tuesday announced Rs50,000 grant for the repair of the one of the dialysis machine at the urology ward.
During her visit to the PMCH, she said medical facilities and hygienic food should be provided to the patients at the hospital so that they could recover soon.
The Nazim, with the PMCH Medical Superintendent Ali Nawaz Khoso, visited different wards and units of the hospital.
Ms Talpur also visited the paediatric surgery ward and felt delighted to say that PMCH, Nawabshah, had a child surgery ward after Hyderabad and Karachi.
She also inaugurated the airconditioned labour room of the gynaecology ward.
GROWERS: Settlers of the district have demanded of the government to direct the ginning factories to pay Rs.780/- per maund of lint cotton to the growers as decided by the government.
A meeting of Sindh Abadgar Board, Nawabshah, was held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Syed Zain Shah, President, SAB, Nawabshah .
They said that rotation programme announced by the Dad and Nusrat division — was not working as announced earlier due to which the growers were experiencing difficulties.
They also demanded closure of the office of the Cane Commissioner and transfer of powers to the district administration as previous record of the Commissioner was not upto mark.
