LAHORE, Aug 6: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal will launch a vigorous election campaign from the last week of the current month.
A summit meeting of MMA constituents held here on Tuesday decided that a Peshawar to Karachi train march would be organized by August end. Central leadership of the Majlis would explain manifesto of the six-party alliance at various places on the route.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, MMA chief Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani said public meetings would be held in all the four provincial capitals and important district and tehsil headquarters in the first week of September.
After Sept 15, the leaders would focus on their respective constituencies, he said.
Majlis leaders Qazi Husain Ahmad, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Prof Sajid Mir, Allama Sajid Naqvi, Liaquat Baloch, Pir Ijaz Hashmi and Hafiz Husain Ahmad were present on the occasion.
The meeting also approved the flag of the MMA.
The Majlis would also hold seminars in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi on Aug 14 which would be addressed by the central leaders.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman said the MMA had not yet decided on striking electoral alliance with other political parties.
“We are reviewing the report prepared by the coordination committee on the issue and will take a decision after launching our election campaign.”
About reports of delaying the holding of general elections, the Qazi said the step would be against the Constitution and the Supreme Court’s verdict and might damage the national solidarity.
He said the government wanted to hold the polls in a frozen atmosphere to get desired results but the MMA would launch a vigorous drive to create awareness among the masses against the election rigging.
