Cueists named for two competitions

KARACHI, Aug 5: Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) Monday named Pakistan snooker squad for Emirates International and World Championship.

Pakistan number one Khurram Hussain Agha and Saleh Muhammad will feature in the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) being staged at Zamalek Sporting Club, Cairo, (Egypt) from Oct-19-Nov 2.

Khurram, Saleh and Muhammad Yousuf will represent Pakistan in the nine-nation Emirates championship being held at Dubai Snooker Club from Sept 4-10.

Alamgir A.Shaikh, Member Executive Committee will be delegate while Waheed Qadir will be the manager of the team.

A prize money of $ 6500 will be at offer in the championship with winning team collecting $ 3000, runners-up $ 2000 and third position will be pocketed $1000 in addition to $500 for highest break in the competition.

PBSA was planning a training camp to polish the cueist for the world championship, Asian Games and Emirates international championship.

PBSA had already named a nine-member Pakistan contingent for snooker, billiards and 9-ball pool event of the Asian Games being held in Pusan (South Korea) from Sept 30 to Oct 14.

The billiards, snooker and pool events of the Asian Games will be held at Dong Ju College Gymnasium Pusan.

Pakistan players will appearing in three snooker events, singles, doubles and team event and singles and doubles in billiards and pool.

Asian Games squad: Snooker: Muhammad Yousuf, Naveen Perwani (Sindh) Farhan Mirza (Punjab) and Saleh Muhammad (NWFP).

Billiards: Muhammad Hussain (NWFP) and Muhammad Yousuf (Sindh). 9-ball Pool: Khurram Hussain Agha (Sindh) Arifullah (NWFP), Imran Shahzad (Punjab).—APP
