KARACHI, Aug 5: The Sindh government has restructured the Board of Directors of Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) by nominating eight new directors for a period of three years.

Among the new directors included the present Chairman, Commodore Syed Tayyab Naqvi. Mr Naqvi’s nomination for three more years has buried all speculations about a possible change of guards in the FCS.

Mr Naqvi was re-elected unanimously chairman of the FCS on Oct 3, 2001, as seven new directors have already been elected for 2001-2004 for the board.

The new official directors’ list comprises some new faces. They include Nazim Keamari Town Zulfikar Yunis and Hidayatullah Khaishgi and the nominee of the mole-holders association has been dropped.

In this regard, a notification issued here by the provincial government superseded by his previous order dated 1999 and nominated eight new directors for three years.

They are Commodore Syed Tayyab Naqvi, SI (M), Secretary Livestock and Fisheries (Sindh), Director-General, Marine Fisheries Department (MFD), Government of Pakistan, a nominee of Export Promotion Bureau, Chief Executive of SMEDA, Town Nazim, Keamari, City Government, Karachi, Chairman of Sindh Trawler Owners and Fishermen Association (STOFA) and Hidayatullah Khaishgi replacing Mohammad Hanif Khan as representative of sea food industry.

The FCS Board comprises 15 members. Of them seven members are elected directly by the shareholders of the Society who are mostly fishermen, while the provincial government nominates eight members.

The Chairman and Vice-chairman of the Society were elected by the 15-member Board.
