KARACHI, Nov 6: City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, formally inaugurated the three-day national polio campaign, administering polio drops to children at Haji Faqir Mohammad Goth Dispensary, Gadap Town, on Tuesday morning.

The City Nazim, addressing the parents and locals, said that the city government had adopted extraordinary measures to ensure that none of the under-five children in Karachi were left out of the campaign. The Executive District Officer, Health, has been directed to dispatch teams in all areas, including rural and urban sectors of the city, without distinction.

He said equal emphasis is also being paid on the provision of Vitamin A among all below-six-months-of-age children in the city.

The City Nazim reminded that the campaign is being run in complete coordination with the Expanded Programme for Immunization. The city administration, he said, has arranged the administration of polio drops to 2.76 million, for which 5,335 centres have been set up.

About 4,845 of these units comprise mobile teams, while 143 are outlets operating on a regular basis and other 336 are makeshift camps to help mobile teams as well as children who may not have been provided with the vaccine.

Tree-plantation: Tree-plantation campaign in the city would be launched from the 1st of the holy month of Ramzan.

This was stated by the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan.

The city government plans to turn Karachi into a green city and the tree-plantation drive is a part of it, he said, while addressing a reception at Steel Town during a visit to the Quaid- i-Azam Park.
