PESHAWAR, Aug 2: SUNGI Development Foundation will hold a Quran Khwani and a reference on the Chehlum of a former federal minister and its former executive director, Omar Ashgar Khan, at its head office here on Sunday.

People from all walks of life, including social and political figures, women and human rights activists, development practitioners from NGO sector, trade unionists, lawyers, journalists and community members from all over the country will participate in the Quran Khwani and reference.

The Quran recital will start at 10am and conclude at 2:30pm. This will be followed by a reference to commemorate the great services the late Omar Ashgar had rendered, being a social activist and federal minister, to empower the disadvantaged groups and marginalizd communities.

The speakers will highlight aspects of Omar’s personality, who always stood for the poor and oppressed classes and made relentless efforts to bring their voices to the decision-making authorities.

Omar Ashgar was found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 25 in Karachi.
