ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The government will soon announce financial award for weightlifter Muhammad Irfan who has won Pakistan three silver medals at the ongoing 17th Commonwealth Games at Manchester (Britain).

This was stated by Federal Minister for Sports, Col. (r) S.K. Tressler, who sent a warm message of felicitations, alongwith Director General Pakistan Sports Board, Brig. Saulat Abbas, to Irfan.

Irfan created history when he became the first Pakistani weightlifter to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games in 30 years, narrowly losing to Dabaya of Cameroon for the three golds in the snatch, the clean-and-jerk and the overall in the 69 kilograms category.

“A proposal for giving cash award and a meeting of our medal winners with the President of Pakistan is actively under consideration of the government and policy decision will be announced shortly”, Col. Tressler said in his message of felicitations.—APP
