KARACHI, Aug 1: The Karachi Union of Journalists has expressed grave concern over the increasing incidents of excesses and harassment by police and other law-enforcing agencies of journalists, says a press release.

The Executive Council of the KUJ, at a meeting here on Thursday, condemned the reported police action against journalists and press photographers in Islamabad.

Through a resolution, the KUJ also condemned the abduction of the editor daily Jasarat, Muzaffar Ijaz, by personnel of a law-enforcement agency and termed it a direct attack on the freedom of the press. The Executive Council constituted a sub-committee to thrash out the issue further.

The Executive Council constituted another committee on the complaint of one of its member from daily Ausaf and expressed concern over the negative attitude of an official of the Saddar police.
