TOBA TEK SINGH, July 31: City police claimed on Wednesday arrest of a Lashkar-i-Jhangvi man who was involved in a sectarian murder case.
Police said Abdul Rehman alias Mansha, who belonged to Toba Tek Singh, was arrested from Jhang. He had gone to Afghanistan two years ago after the murder of Advocate Malik Ibrar Husain, it added.
He had returned to Pakistan after the fall of Taliban but police had failed to arrest him.
Police had got information that he was staying in Jhang.
Abdul Rehman has been kept in city police station under strict security.
LAWYERS STRIKE: Lawyers observed complete strike here on Wednesday in protest against the alleged misbehaviour by Chuttiana police station SHO Naseeb Dogar with Advocate Qamarul Haq Bhatti.
The lawyer had reportedly gone to police station in connection with the investigation of a case.
A DBA meeting demanded of district police chief to immediately suspend the SHO.
FARMERS’ PROTEST: Hundreds of farmers staged sit-in outside Chaudhry Sugar Mills on Gojra-Pansara road on Wednesday in protest against non-payment of their dues.
They chanted slogans against the mills management. Their strike was continuing till late afternoon.
The mills is owned by Mian Nawaz Sharif family.
19 ARRESTED: Police arrested on Wednesday 19 Christians on the charge of re-occupying 1,500 acres of state land in Chak 300-GB.
The arrested men include Sadiq, Samuel, Nazir, Aman, Piara, Habib, Arshad, Sacha, Mahmood, Bagga, Bashir, Aslam, Naeem, Sarfraz, Patras, Ashraf and Faisal.
The land was allotted to Christians about 30 years ago but they failed to cultivate it. The land was later allotted to the forest department for tree plantation.
MURDER: A farmer was killed by unidentified killers on Tuesday in Chak 291-GB.
Shah Muhammad was sleeping in his dera on Tuesday night when someone strangled him and locked his body in a room.
According to his brother Manzoor Ahmad, the family had no enmity with anyone.
