KARACHI: Ata’s arrest denied

Published August 1, 2002

KARACHI, July 31: The police have again denied apprehending Ataur Rahman Bokhari, who, according to his relatives, was arrested on June 16 in an early morning swoop by armed security men.

The denial has been made through a rejoinder to counter an affidavit filed before a division bench on Wednesday by inspector-general of police through inspector (legal) Anwar Alam Subhani in a habeas corpus application filed by counsel Aamir Mansoob Qureshi on behalf of Kulsoom Bano, sister of Ataur Rahman.

“The Sindh police have not arrested the detainee nor any recovery has been made from him,” the police said .

Counsel Aamir Mansoob sought permission to file the application with an amended title. The request was granted and the matter was fixed for August 8.
