Land settlement proposal opposed

Published July 31, 2002

CHITRAL, July 30: Members of the district council have rejected the land settlement proposals, saying that land holdings in the district were small and the process would spark off bickering among people.

The house, presided by convener Salim Khan, formed a committee headed by the district Nazim to deliberate on the issue to drop the proposal.

Earlier, the district revenue officer, Ghazanfar Ali Khan, told the house that the land settlement decision was final and irreversible.

Many members expressed concern over the conditions in the DHQ hospital. A member, Sajjad Ahmed Khan, also produced expired medicines before the house which were being supplied to patients.

Members criticized the attitude of the district specialist of surgery who, according to them, abstained from conducting surgery in the morning time and asked them to undergo surgery in the hours of institution-based practice to extort money from them.

The Nazim assured the house of an inquiry into the matter on which the members did not press the matter.

The house also demanded an inquiry into the embezzlement in the export tax by the former district administration. The session was later adjourned sine die.
