Ittehad, Ravi in last eight

LAHORE, July 29: Ittehad Club, Manga Mandi entered the quarterfinals of the Lahore district hockey championship, beating Gulberg Club 5-3 on penalty-strokes at the National Hockey Stadium (NHS) ground Monday.

The second match was also decided on penalty-strokes in which Ravi Club emerged victorious against Cantt Friends 6-3.

Ittehad Club defeated the strong Gulberg Club after conceding 0-1 lead in the first half of the match. Naeem scored a field goal for Gulberg Club in the 10th minute.

Ittehad Club restored the parity when Ramzan struck a goal in the 45th minute to leave the decision on penalty-strokes.

Ittehad Club scored on four penalties while Gulberg managed to score only two.

Ravi Club and Cantt Friends were 2-2 at the end of the allotted time.

Ravi Club got an early lead when Zahid Rafique scored a field goal in the 12th minute.

Cantt Friends made it 1-1 through Azeem who banged home in the 20th minute.

Cantt Friends came ahead (2-1) in the 32nd minute when Iftikhar scored a goal.

But Ravi Club managed to make it 2-2 through Mirza Waheed who found the net in the 52nd minute.

On penalty-stroke, Ravi Club capitalised four penalty-strokes while their rivals could convert only two.
