PESHAWAR, July 29: Pakistan has failed to honour its commitment to abide by the principals of Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on Nov 20, 1989.

This view was expressed during a training workshop held here at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, organized by Aurat Publication Information Service Foundation for local journalists on the rights of children and for the introduction of the CRC.

Representative of Aurat Foundation, Assad, said that, Pakistan had failed to implement the laws related to child rights.

He said that Pakistan has conditionally ratified the CRC on Sept 12, 1990, but has still not been able to deal with the important issue.

To a question about the conditional ratification of CRC by Pakistan, Regional Director Aurat Foundation, Rukhshanda Naz, present on the occasion said that it has created a lot of confusion and all the legislation has been affected by this.

The workshop was part of the training programme, the Aurat Foundation has started for NGOs, CBOs etc. after it got the project, “Advocacy Campaign on CRC” in August 1997, to create awareness among different sections of society.

On this occasion it was needed that all the laws should be made in Pakistan in conformity with the CRC, and the government should work hard for the implementation of the laws in order to protect the weakest segment of society from further exploitation.
