GUJRAT, July 28: An assistant sub-inspector was among the four policemen injured by villagers to secure release of a drug-pusher in Aadowal late on Saturday night.
According to details, a CIA police team arrested drug-pusher Pervaiz Gujjar from his hideout on a tip-off. They were taking Pervaiz with them when a large number of villagers gathered there.
They attacked the team with clubs and bricks, injuring four policemen, including ASI Shafiq. The villagers got Pervaiz released from the police custody and asked them to leave the area.
The injured were taken to the DHQ Hospital where the condition of ASI Shafiq was stated to be critical.
Later, at around 3:30am, a heavy police contingent again raided the village but could not trace Pervaiz. The policemen after failure to confirm the names of the attackers took away three villagers with them.
Two of them were identified as Rizwan Butt and Shahbaz Ahmad.
Villagers told this correspondent on Sunday that they took the plainclothesmen as dacoits. “We asked them to identify themselves but they did not,” a resident said.
Another said the plainclothesmen came to raid the village in a private vehicle. However, they were allowed to go when one of them showed his card, he said.
The villagers alleged that the police were severely torturing the three villagers in a house and demanding huge amount for their release. They demanded an impartial probe into the matter.
