PESHAWAR, July 28: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah was briefed on Sunday about the Rehman Baba intersection project, which had been undertaken to regulate traffic flow in the Peshawar city.

The intersection, which is estimated to cost Rs300 million, involves construction of a number of flyovers and under-passes from the Jail Pul to Bacha Khan Chowk and from the Provincial Assembly Hall on Khyber Road to Shabistan Cinema on the G.T. Road.

On completion, the intersection would ensure uninterrupted flow of traffic through the Rehman Baba Chowk to and from the G.T. Road, Khyber Road, Jail Road and Bacha Khan Chowk and the two side roads entering the G.T. Road from Soekarno Chowk and Asamai Gate.

The presentation was given by Director-General of City Development and Municipal Department, Malik Saad. The governor approved the first phase of the project comprising construction of a flyover from Jail Road to Charsadda Road and directed that construction work must be started immediately.

He said both interim and long-term planning was needed to overcome the traffic problem.
