QUETTA, July 26: The Afghan government has established the country’s first computer training institute in Kandahar.

Kandahar Governor Gul Agha Sherzai inaugurated the institute.

It has been set up in an old Taliban Madressah. In the first phase, the government has provided 50 computers and appointed 20 instructors. Ehsanullah Omer has been appointed the principal.

Admissions will begin on Sunday and 300 t0 400 students would be given admitted.

In the first phase, only boys would be given admission, sources said and added that a section for girls would be set up later.

According to sources, girls schools have been opened by the Kandahar administration but the parents are reluctant to send their daughters to schools as Taliban are allegedly threatening them.

Gul Agha said at the opening ceremony that the government was making efforts for establishing educational institutions.
