LAHORE, Oct 19 An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday gave 10-year rigorous imprisonment to Hijratullah, an Afghan national involved in a terrorist attack on the Manawan police training school in March this year. He was caught by security forces when he tried to hurl a hand-grenade on an army helicopter outside the school.
The Manawan police registered two cases against Hijratullah under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
During custody, he also admitted to his involvement in a bomb blast in Peer Makki area of Lahore in 2008. However, the court acquitted him in this case as the prosecution failed to produce any cogent evidence against him.
ATC judge Masood Arshad conducted trial in Kot Lakhpat jail and convicted Hijratullah in one case while the other case is still pending.

Child custody case The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday gave two more days to the former husband of a French national woman, Peggy Collin, for the production of the child who has been in his custody for long.
Earlier when the proceedings of a habeas corpus petition filed by Peggy started, Muhammad Ashfaq Malik was produced in court of Justice Asif Saeed Khosa by the Sheikhupura police.
Ashfaq failed to produce the child despite giving an undertaking to court on the last date of hearing.
Taking strict notice of the non-compliance, Justice Khosa asked Ashfaq as to why the child had not been produced in court.
Barrister Syed Ali Zafar informed the judge that his client Ashfaq would produce the child in court within two days since both father and mother had equal rights over the child.
He argued that the delay in child's production was on account of the fact that Ashfaq and his father were in police custody and the procedure required to enable him to produce the child was not yet complete.
Human Rights Activist and lawyer Hina Jillani representing Peggy submitted that there was no justification for delaying the production of the child.
She alleged that the police had joined hands with the accused and creating hurdles in the production of the child.
The judge remarked that firstly everyone laughed at law, but the last laugh would be that of the law.
After seeking permission from the judge, petitioner Peggy also raised a question in court whether Ashfaq in fact knew the whereabouts of Umar at all. She also expressed her apprehension that the child might have been killed by Ashfaq.
At this, Ashfaq accordingly gave an undertaking to court that he would produce his son in court on Oct 21 and he should be judged only if he failed to comply with this undertaking.
