‘PPP will not boycott polls’

GUJRANWALA, July 25: The Pakistan People’s Party will not boycott the forthcoming general elections.

This was stated by Punjab PPP president Qasim Zia and other leaders Khalid Kharal, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and Naveed Chaudhry while speaking at a news conference here on Thursday.

They said party tickets would be given only to those candidates who were loyal to the party and the decision in this regard would be taken by PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto on merit.

DEATH SENTENCE: The additional district and sessions judge handed down death sentence on two counts to one Amir and life term on two counts to Latif in a double murder case here on Thursday.

The court also fined Rs200,000 collectively to both the convicts and acquitted co-accused Mian Nazir giving him the benefit of the doubt. One Ghafoor Ahmad was declared proclaimed offender.

According to the prosecution, the convicts had killed one Ibrahim and his daughter, Kalsoom Bibi, over a land dispute in Tetley village some two years ago.

JAILED: An anti-corruption court awarded one-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs10,000 to an assistant sub-inspector in a corruption case here on Thursday.

The police arrested him from the court and sent him to jail following the announcement of the verdict.

According to the prosecution, ASI Zafar Bhinder was booked by the anti-corruption establishment on corruption charges some two years ago when he was Khiali chowki in charge.

KILLED: A youth, Ansar Pervez, was killed allegedly by a landlord, Ajmal, over a petty issue in Shaikh Rajawa village here on Thursday.

Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.
