Proposed site for bypass opposed

NAWABSHAH, July 24: A joint procession was taken out by several political parties and the Shehri Ittehad here on Wednesday against what they called ‘selection of wrong site’ for the construction of a bypass.

The protesters also staged a sit-in at the Qazi Ahmed section of the National Highway causing a one-hour blocked.

The activists of Shehri Ittehad, PPP, PPP-SB, JUI and other parties strongly criticized the general manager, National Highway Authority (NHA), Abdul Haq Arain, and claimed that the site was proposed because he owned a petrol pump there.

The protesters were addressed by Sardar Jam Tamachi Unnar, a former PPP senator, who said that his ancestors and elders had donated the land for the people of the town. He said that the donation had enabled the authorities to construct roads but the NHA was ruining the development by raising the bypass. He described the plan as ‘injustice’ with the local people.

The protesters, led by Sardar Ali Shah, Haji Khan Lakho, Haider Jokhio and Kamil Shah, also marched through the streets of the town and burnt an effigy of Mr Arain.
