ISLAMABAD Agriculture scientists should play their role in alleviating poverty and fighting hunger to achieve food security by introducing new varieties and seeds of cash crops.
These views were expressed by agriculture scientists and experts during a reference held to pay homage to Dr Norman E. Borlaug, who is called the father of green revolution, here on Sunday. The reference was organised by the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zafar Altaf, Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), said Dr Borlaug played a significant role in alleviating poverty and fighting against hunger to achieve food security in the world.
'His achievements are also guidance for the agricultural experts that they too can change the course of history for good and contribute for the betterment of humanity in the current challenging times when the world is once again faced with food shortages,' Dr Altaf said.
He said one person can make a difference if they are committed to working for humanity like Dr Borlaug and it was a good lesson for others.
The green revolution brought by Dr Borlaug benefited South Asia and it is the collective responsibility of agriculturists to continue this green revolution, he added.
