KARACHI, July 24: An additional district and sessions court of Malir sentenced on Wednesday a man to death for three times for murdering two men and a woman.
Judge Muhammed Yameen also imposed a fine of Rs150,000 on Fida for each murder and ordered that the convict undergo an additional six-month term in case of default on the payment.
Fida had shot dead Rahim Bahadur, Iqbal and Farzana on October 9, 1995 in Quaidabad following a petty dispute between his and the victims’ children.
He also wounded two other women, Naureen and Afreen, both belonging to the victims’ family.
The judge awarded Fida a three-year term of rigorous imprisonment each for injuring the two women. A fine of Rs10,000 was also imposed on the convict, who would have to undergo an additional three-month term in case of default on the payment.
LAHORI CASE: The Brigade police submitted a final charge-sheet (challan) against Akram Lahori, an activist of a banned religious group, in a sectarian murder case before a judicial magistrate.
Lahori, allegedly involved in over 30 murders, was booked for the murder of Syed Mushtaq Haider by the Brigade police early this year.
This was the eighth charge-sheet submitted against him.
NBWS AGAINST SI: The additional district and sessions judge, Central, Ghulam Qadir Leghari, issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of a sub-inspector of Liaquatabad police for not attending the court despite several notices.
The judge also ordered the deduction of Rs5,000 from the salary of SI Faheem Ahmed, who was required by the court for his evidence in a case against Abdul Fahmeed.
The accused was booked in the case two years ago by the Liaquatabad police for possessing an unlicensed TT pistol.
The judge ordered that police authorities arrest the sub- inspector and produce him before the court on August 5.
BAIL REJECTED: The additional district and sessions judge, West, Akhtar A. Chaudhry, rejected the bail application of a man who had allegedly deprived a woman of her bangles and cash at gunpoint.
Sajid was booked and arrested on January 22 by the Surjani Town police for looting Ghayyurun Nisa at gunpoint.
BAIL GRANTED: The district and sessions judge, Central, Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani, granted bail to a worker of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan in two separate cases, both pertaining to attempt to murder.
Abu Qasim, booked in 1998 by the Super Market police, was given bail in the sum of Rs50,000 each in the two cases.
JUDGEMENT DEFERRED: The anti-terrorism court No 2, headed by Judge Abdul Ghafoor Memon, deferred the judgment in a case pertaining to kidnapping of a paper merchant for ransom.
Five men — Dr Khalid Moeen, deputy superintendent of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Saleem Tanoli, Saleem Uddin, Muhammad Altaf and Salim Memon — have been prosecuted for kidnapping Rafique on January 17.
