SARGODHA, July 18: Some 39 Nazimeen and district council health committee Chairman Dr Zulfiqar Bhatti has demanded the government to cancel the transfer of DHQ Hospital’s former Medical Superintendent Mazhar Rasheed.

Dawn learnt on Thursday that Dr Zulfiqar resigned from his office as a protest against posting of Dr Javed Husain Ajmi as DHQ Hospital MS.

The district Nazim directed the former MS to continue his job and asked the health secretary to cancel Dr Rasheed’s transfer. However, the health secretary directed Dr Rasheed to relinquish immediately and Dr Ajmi assumed the charge.

The situation created unrest among the doctors in favour of and against former MS Dr Rasheed.

Meanwhile, MS Dr Ajmi told newsmen that his mission was to ensure free treatment to the deserving. Therefore, he claimed he had directed the staff concerned to shift the medicines to store easily accessible to every patient.

He said the DHQ Hospital had the capacity of accommodating 500 patients, but, the number of patients admitted here never exceeded 200. He alleged the doctors forced scores of patients to shift to private hospitals.

DIRECTED: The Punjab Road Transport secretary has directed the traffic police and tehsil administration to force the three-wheelers and four-wheeler motor cabs’ owners to install meters by July 31.

Dawn learnt on Thursday that the official had also ordered check on plying private taxis.

At least 200 cars are reportedly being plied in the district privately with the connivance of the excise and taxation department. The private cab owners allegedly evade taxes and provide helping hand to outlaws.

The private cabs occupy large area under the overhead bridge and road in front of the Trust Plaza, leaving little space for traffic and pedestrians.

It was learnt that only a dozen of such cars owners had been paying the proper tax of private cabs. However, these vehicles have no identification of cabs.

GAMBLING: The proprietor of funfair at the railway ground has once again managed to win support of police and allegedly run the gambling den till 11pm daily.

The religious leaders have voiced their concern over unabated gambling and demanded the Punjab governor to take stock of the situation.
