HYDERABAD, July 17: A large number of students of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, belonging to the Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF), on Wednesday took out a rally and staged sit-ins on the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas Road and outside the university administration block to protest against the continued detention of JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi.
Carrying party flags, they raised slogans for the release of Qureshi. Speaking at the rally, JSSF leader Suleman Veesar said by keeping Qureshi in jail for an indefinite period, the “imperialist” Punjab could not break the spirit of the leader.
Veesar said Qureshi had been ordered to be released in all the cases on bail but he was being detained for unknown reasons.
RESULT: The Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, on Wednesday announced the result of entry test for admission to BIT.
Out of 123 candidates, who appeared in the test, 48 candidates received zero marks.
BDS STUDENT: A third year BDS student of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Shahzad Sameejo, continued token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on the second consecutive day on Wednesday to protest against the alleged excesses of the BDS and the university administration.
Talking to newsmen, he alleged that he had been intentionally declared fail by four marks although his past record was outstanding.
He appealed to President Pervez Musharraf, the Sindh governor, and the health minister to provide justice.
TOKEN HUNGER STRIKE: Four disabled people — Abdul Hameed Sipyo, Khan M. Sipyo, Ameer Bux Solangi, and Massu Khan Kathian — residents of union council Musa Khatian, Hyderabad Taluka, held token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday against the non-payment of Zakat.
Talking to newsmen they alleged that the district chairman of Zakat and Ushr, Gul Hassan Leghari, and its local chairman, Wahid Nodani, had misused the Zakat money and deprived the deserving people of Zakat funds.
They appealed to President Pervez Musharraf to order an inquiry into the alleged embezzlement of Zakat fund.
They alleged that the chairmen had distributed Zakat funds to their favourites.
