KHAIRPUR, July 16: The growers of Khairpur District continued to hold protest demonstrations against the irrigation officials as four separate demonstrations were held in the district on Tuesday.

In Faiz Ganj Taluka, the growers of Pandharo and Ali Nawaz Wah held a demonstration in front of the office of the Nazim, Faiz Ganj Taluka, and the irrigation office.

The growers said there was no water at the tail of the two Wahs and they had been deprived of irrigation water in the name of rotation.

The tail-end growers of Ali Bahar Wah protested against the irrigation officials by taking out a rally from Tando Mir Ali. They stopped on the Ali Bahar Wah Bridge where they raised slogans against the irrigation authorities demanding water.

In Agra town, Gambat Taluka, the growers held a demonstration against the irrigation authorities.

The growers of Faiz Bahar Wah told newsmen that the irrigation staff was involved in selling water to the influential people while the small growers were deprived of their due share.

The growers of Suk Wahan held a demonstration against the breach in Khuhra Minor.

The protestors said that due to the breach in the Khuhra Minor their village was being flooded and a large quantity of cotton crops had been ruined.

They said that it was the 3rd breach within a month.

HESCO: During inspections by Hesco in Sukkur region in June, out of 1,927 subscribers 854 were found to be involved in theft while 105 had slow-running meters.

This was disclosed by the regional manager, Hesco, Sukkur (metering and testing), R. G. Gamnani, while briefing the newsmen on Tuesday.

He said that a team led by him checked the meters at various towns including Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Ranipur, Piry-aloi, Pir Jo Goth, and Larkana.

Giving the break up of the theft, he said 507 domestic, 199 commercial, 16 industrial, and 132 agricultural subscribers were found to be involved in the theft.

TRANSFERRED: Amir Ahmed Khan, director, Radio Pakistan, Khairpur, has been transferred to Karachi, while Zahid Qalbani, Larkana, has been transferred to Khairpur.

Besides, Jehangir Qureshi has been transferred from Hyderabad to Larkana as its new station director.
