TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 3: Five dacoits took away local and foreign currency worth Rs2.5 million from a moneychanger in Kutchery Bazaar here on Saturday.
The bandits, in early 20s, stopped their car in front of the shop owned by Amjad and stepped in. They forced their way into the cash room where gunman Muhammad Jamal was busy in counting cash.
After depriving Jamal of his gun, they took him and those present inside, including three customers, hostage at gunpoint. Two of the intruders removed cash from the drawer, safe and from the pockets of customers worth more than Rs2.5 million. They also made a customer surrender his costly wrist watch.
The loot included 1,800 US dollars, 3,500 pounds, 5,500 Saudi Riyal, 7,000 UAE Dirham and 200,000 Lira.
Before fleeing, they locked the inmates in an upper storey room.
After receiving information, police sealed all outlets of the town but failed to trace the dacoits and the car.
BODY FOUND: The dead body of an official of the district registration office was found from fields near the government high school, Moroosipur, on Saturday evening.
Deceased Attiqur Rehman, resident of Chak 250-GB, had come to Toba Tek Singh a few days ago and had telephoned his parents the same day that he would return home next day.
When he did not return, his relatives launched a search three days ago which ended on Saturday evening.
Rajana police registered a case against unknown killer(s).
