LAHORE, July 14: The Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (Noorani) has formed five committees to decide party’s nominees for the October polls.

The committee will visit various districts from July 21 to select 100 nominees for National Assembly and 200 for provincial assemblies seats. The list of candidates will be submitted to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal parliamentary board for a final decision.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the JUP executive held here on Sunday. The meeting urged the government not to make the constitutional amendments a hurdle in the election process.

JUP central vice-president Gen K.M. Azhar (retired) asked the government to take political parties into confidence over the constitutional package.

Punjab secretary-general Qari Zawwar Bahadur said democracy had contracted diseases like feudalism and corruption which could be cured by implementing Article 62 to 63 of the Constitution.

MJAH: A joint meeting of the central executive and district amirs of the Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith on Sunday decided to hold elections to central offices of the party on Aug 4.

It also decided to hold district level elections by July 31, while a committee was formed to deliberate upon the proposed constitutional amendments.

MJAH spokesman Sahibzada Muhammad Ajmal said the meeting, which continued for five hours, rejected the Madaris Registration Ordinance and decided to complete its list of nominees for October polls as demanded by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.
