FAISALABAD, July 12: Notables of Chak Jhumra have vowed to defend the case of 30 people, including prayer leader, who had been refused bail in the stoning case.

Gathering in Chak 103-JB (Barnala) after Friday prayers, scores of villagers condemned the police and alleged they had deceived villagers.

They said the police initially asked the eyewitnesses to record their statements, alleging they booked the accused in a fake case.

The villagers constituted a committee of notables who will look after the arrested people in the district jail and file their bail application before the sessions court on Saturday.
