THATTA, July 11: Glowing tributes were paid to the renowned artiste, Ustad Khamiso Khan Chandio, who rendered unmatched services to the music world, specially in Laar (lower Sindh) over a long period.
The Goth Adabi Sangat, in collaboration with the Young Social Welfare Organization, organized a function which was followed by a musical evening, in honour of the tabla nawaz (percussionist) in Mirpur Bathoro the other day.
The function was presided over by the eminent academician and poet, Syed Akbar Shah. Prominent among the guests were Adal Soomro, the general secretary of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Sindh, and Ghulam Hussain Rangrez, a poet and writer.
A large number of fans and admirers attended the programme, organized to raise funds for the treatment of Ustad Khamiso, suffering from paralysis which has crippled both of his hands and the right spinal side. He can hardly move and speak.
Paying rich tributes to the services of Ustad Khamiso, Syed Akbar Shah, Ghulam Hussain Rangrez, Adal Soomro and others said that the artiste enjoyed command over tabla and had the honour to demonstrate his skills while accompanying renowned vocalists, Ustad Manzoor Ali Khan, Ustad Mohammad Jumman, Abida Parveen and many others.
The speakers recognized his professional skills in understanding and demonstrating various taals and beats and said that he also composed some scintillating tunes and performed his art with an edge on tabla.
The speakers lauded the artiste’s dedication to the profession and said Ustad Khamiso remained a symbol of professional commitment and rendered his valuable services to the art of music without any greed.
Responding to his admirers, Ustad Khamiso collected his courage to speak out on the occasion and praised his life partner, Allah Wasai, who is also a well-known folk singer, for encouraging him to touch the peak of his profession.
After the speeches, Allah Wasai, Amir Hamzo Bhan, Allah Dino Khaskheli, Khuda Dino Tharani and other vocalists presented their compositions.
