KARACHI, July 11: The Higher Education Commission Ordinance (HECO) will focus on improvement of standard education and revision of curricula to create its relevance with national deeds and poverty alleviation, besides due emphasis will be made on science and technology education and creating linkages between varsities and industry.

This was agreed upon in an inter-provincial meeting on Thursday, presided at by the federal minister for science and technology, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman and the federal education minister, Zobaida Jalal.

The federal secretary IT and Telecom division, federal education secretary and education ministers and secretaries of the four provinces, as well as chairman of the University Grants Commission, Dr A.Q. Mughal, also participated in the meeting.

The meeting was called to discuss the opinion of relevant ministers and all the provinces on HECO.

The meeting also decided to discuss the ordinance with President Gen Pervez Musharraf.—PPI
