RAWALPINDI, June 7 The Pakistan Railways moved one leap forward on Sunday when it linked the federal capital with Karachi and the rest of the country with first express train scheduled to operate on daily-basis.

Starting from Monday, the Tezro previously known as Buraq express train will run between the Margalla Railway Station and Karachi with stop-over in Rawalpindi.

The train arrived at Rawalpindi station from Karachi in the evening and left for Margalla Station being the new departing point. The scheduled time of daily departure of the train from Islamabad is 1025am.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Railways told Dawn that the Margalla Railway Station had now been connected with the e-ticketing system to facilitate the passengers to buy tickets from any railway reservation office. The railways has allocated a quota of seats for passengers from the federal capital. Tickets are also available at the station.

Launching of the Tezro express train has been timed with the start of holiday season in academic institutions in the federal capital. It will save time as well as money for passengers of Islamabad who used to catch trains from Rawalpindi Railway Station.

Pakistan Railways has already started a daily express rail car service between Islamabad and Lahore and with the addition of another train the financial crisis-hit railways expects to make good business from the federal capital. —Our Reporter
