ISLAMABAD, July 8: A young man was shot dead by his brother in Ganjmandi while a woman was killed in a car accident near Tarnol on Monday.

Police said Asif Mehmood quarrelled with his elder brother, Yasir Iqbal, over a monetary issue. During the brawl, Yasir pulled out his pistol and allegedly shot his brother who died on the spot.

The alleged killer managed to escape from the scene. The body was shifted to the DHQ hospital for autopsy.

In another incident, a woman was killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in smashed into a fence near Tarnol.

Police said a car (RIR-8944) was heading towards Rawalpindi from Hazro when it smashed into a fence near Tarnol. The woman, Ajaib Sultana, 50, died on the spot while Rizwana, Naseem Akhtar and Mohammad Younus were injured. The two children who were also travelling in the car escaped unhurt, the police said.

ROBBERY: About 20 robbers escaped with bales of cloth after breaking into a textile mill in Mandra on Monday.

Rifat Mehmood, general manager of the mill, told the police that some unidentified persons entered the mill premises with two trucks in the early hours of Monday. The robbers loaded about 70 bales of cloth in the trucks and escaped after locking the security guards in a room.

After failing to get a response from the local police, the textile mill owner called Inspector General of Punjab police Asif Hayat in Lahore and requested him to direct the Rawalpindi police to help him.

The IGP then informed the SSP Rawalpindi, a police source said.The SSP immediately directed the DSP and other police officers concerned to reach the scene of the crime and take action in this regard. An inquiry was also ordered into the “negligence” of the SHO Rawat police station.

Earlier, in another incident, three brothers, who are jewellers by profession, were robbed by three armed men in Sadiqabad, police said.

Imran Shahzad and his two brothers were going home when three persons blocked their way near a graveyard and forced them to handover their valuables.

The culprits snatched Rs8,000, one gold ring, a wrist watch and mobile telephone set from them and escaped.
