MULTAN, Nov 2: The current cotton crop situation indicates that the target of 10.8 million bales will be achieved.
This was stated by District Nazim Shah Mehmood Qureshi at a press conference here on Friday.
He said however the situation was not favourable for cotton growers because of poor price.
He said the growers wanted a ban on the import of cotton. He said President Pervez Musharraf had promised, in his meeting with district nazims, that a regulatory duty would be imposed on cotton import.
Quresi said the president had assured the nazims that they would be given representation on the provincial finance commission and that their opinion would be given weight in the National Finance Commission.
He said that Multan would remain peaceful on Nov 9 and no one would be allowed to enforce strike.
To a question, he said there should be a political solution to the Afghan crisis.
LECTURERS: The government should reinstate ad hoc lecturers to fill a large number of vacant posts in colleges.
This was stated by Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) secretary-general Sayed Tanveer Ahmad Shah in a Press release issued here on Friday.
He said many colleges in the Punjab had been closed after the termination of ad hoc lecturers. Instead of recruiting lecturers on contract basis, the government should reinstate ad hoc lecturers, he added.

BODY FOUND: An unidentified body of a minor boy was found in a gunny bag from near Muzaffargarh on Friday.
Muzaffargarh police said the gunny bag was thrown outside from a moving train which was coming from Multan.
found dead: An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed by a man in Chak 12/MR, Makhdoom Rasheed village, some 25km from here, on Thursday, reports APP.
Police said the body of the girl, who was missing for the last couple of days, was found in agriculture fields.
Her father Ashiq Ali had alleged that a youth Anwar of the same village had killed his daughter after raping her.
The body was sent to the mortuary for post mortem.
