MIRANSHAH, July 5: Eight people, including six Afghan refugees, were killed and 10 other Afghans were seriously injured in a clash over the ownership of a piece of land between two tribes near Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency, on Friday.

The two tribes, Tabiwal Wazir and Darpakhel Dawar, used modern weapons, like rocket launchers and missiles, against each other.

The warring tribes have also started detaining the members of each other.

Four of the Afghans were killed when a canon hit a mosque where they had taken shelter, while one died in the hospital and one breathed his last when he was being shifted to his residence.

Two of the dead were identified as Sahib Din and Hijrat Khan, while the names of the others could not be ascertained.

Those injured in the clash are Mohammad Wali Marjan, Zahir Khan, Speen Marjan, Madeed Khan, Panjsher, Wali Sadin and Mohammad Wali Jan.

The Utmanzai tribe has started efforts to effect a ceasefire and bring the warring tribes to the negotiation table.

The political administration has also constituted a tribal jirga to end the dispute.
