NOWSHERA, July 5: The police arrested three transporters as they blocked the road for all kinds of traffic in protest against the 300 per cent increase in the toll tax on the Nowshera-Mardan bridge.

The detainees also included the president and general secretary of the transporters union. They were arrested under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

As the vehicular procession arrived in the Nowshera city, the transporters blocked the road and demanded probe into the affairs of the Frontier Highways Authority. They said that the FHA had increased the toll tax by 300 per cent without taking the transporters into confidence.

The Nowshera SP reached the road blockade site along with a big contingent of police and controlled the situation.
