HYDERABAD, July 5: A large number of Sindh National Party (SNP) activists staged token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Friday to protest against the arrest of party activists, Wahid Bus San-grasi and Naseer Shah, for esp-ousing the cause of the workers.

The activists were led by the party chairman, Dr Dodo Mehri.

Talking to newsmen, Dr Mehri said that his party had launched a struggle for the rights of the workers of Hyderabad SITE.

He said that the workers were being forced to work overtime without being paid adequate wages and they had no security of service.

He said if the two activists were not released, the party will hold a series of protests throughout the district and stage hunger strikes outside the press club.

DEMO: Some people under the banner of the New Wahdat Colony Action Committee staged a protest demonstration against the chairman and vice chairman of the Ushr and Zakat Committee of the area.

The protesters were led by Nazeer Charan and Shahid Soomro.

Talking to newsmen, they alleged that the chairman and vice chairman were distributing Zakat funds only among their favourites while those who deserved it were being ignored.

They demanded that the two officials should be removed and the Zakat funds should be distributed among those who deserved it.
