PESHAWAR, July 4: Provincial President of Pakistan Muslim League, (QA) Salim Saifullah Khan, has said that constitutional amendments in the past, by both military and civilian rulers, were done only for their own benefit and failed to prevent frequent military interventions.

Salim said that it is only the parliament’s right to make changes in the constitution.

Only essential amendments should be made with general consensus and the remaining changes should be left until after the October elections, he said. He said the 1973 constitution did not need any changes, it only needs to be implemented in letter and spirit.

We should not repeat previous experiences which have affected the nation badly, he added.
