LAHORE, April 30 Women`s football is progressing well as the time goes on and extended strength of clubs has placed us in a position to organize the first National Women`s Club Championship last year, the second edition of which will be played in July 2009.

This was stated by Pakistan Football Federation`s women`s wing Chairperson Robina Irfan on Thursday. She added that the women`s wing which comprised only five clubs at the end of 2006, now have as many as 32 clubs as members after 15 new clubs registered before the deadline of Feb 15 this year.

“Of the 15, eight clubs belong to Peshawar including Frontier College Club, Malik Club, Dak Ismail Khel Club, Chamkani Club, Spark Club, Peshawar Club, Charsada Club, United Club while Karachi`s Aurora Club, Islamabad`s Suzuki Ch. Motors Club complete the numbers along with Lahore`s Model Town Club, Lahore Club and City Club and Quetta`s Roshni FC and Quetta Juniors,” she disclosed.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)`s Women`s Department Director Belinda Wilson praised Women`s Cell of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and said that it had made great strides in women`s football under President Faisal Saleh Hayat and Robina Irfan.

The PFF`s decision to hire a full-time administrator in Aqeela Rehman for the women`s game has helped open up the competition for female footballers and officials from all over the country.

This year, the PFF women`s wing will host the first National Women Club Championship in July followed by 5th National Women Championship.—Agencies
