MITHI, July 3: A number of Tharparkar candidates, who qualified for the post of ‘primary teacher’, have appealed to the governor, chief secretary and secretary, Education, to order the EDO (education) of Tharparkar to issue appointment letters, held up for more than a year.
The youths, observing a hunger strike for several days, indicated that candidates from different districts had appeared in the May 2001 interviews and 140 candidates from Tharparkar were among those declared successful. All the others have got their appointment letters soon after the results but Tharparkar candidates were still running from pillar to post for the job, they said.
They accused the EDO of deliberately holding up their appointment letters for reasons best known to him.
TEACHERS TRAINING: A four-week training programme for teachers started here on Monday under the provincial government’s Middle School Project.
A total of 105 HSTs are participating in the programme which was inaugurated by the EDO (education), Tharparkar, Prof Abdul Majid Hur.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hur stressed upon the trainees to impart quality education to their students as it was foremost duty of the teachers to use all their abilities to make children useful citizens of the country.
He said that children would have to shoulder the responsibilities of nation building and teachers were supposed to induce leadership qualities into their students.
A large number of teachers and education department officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
