PESHAWAR, July 3: A juvenile offender was sent to the borstal institution inside the Haripur prison after a court convicted him in a narcotics case here on Wednesday.

Presided over by the district and sessions judge, Ziauddin Khattak, the juvenile court sentenced Zahid Khan, 14, to four years imprisonment with Rs4,000 fine.

Normally, on conviction the juvenile court sets free the offe-nder on probation after his/her parents furnished surety bonds. Since there was no guardian in the case, the accused was sent to the borstal institution.

Zahid was arrested on Oct 24 on the Bara Road for possessing 4kg of Charas. He informed the court that the uncle of one of his friends had handed him over a bag and asked him to take it to an appointed place.
