HYDERABAD, July 3: The general secretary, Jamaat-i-Islami, Sindh, Rashid Naseem, has accused the world media of ignoring human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir and Palestinian territory.

Speaking at the Islami Jamiat-i-Talebat meeting on Society and Impact of Media 2 here on Wednesday, he said the international media could not see the graves of 80,000 martyrs and the presence of 700,000 Indian soldiers in the occupied Kashmir but it saw the so-called terrorism in the valley. Same was the case with Palestinian territory, he added.

He said despite the unprecedented development in electronic media, the significance of print media had not been affected.

The technological development, made in the dissemination of information, had a tendency to increase the nondevelopment expenditure, the JI leader said.

Mr Naseem said due to the development of information media, the world had been squeezed into a global village.

He said the world media today was under the control of the non-Muslims, especially the Jews, who had unleashed a propaganda against Islam and had adopted double standards.

He said the women were being exploited through advertisements which, according to him, had increased the nondevelopment expenditure of the society and encouraged the people to live an artificial life.

STPP: The district body of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STPP), at a meeting held here on Tuesday, condemned the inhuman atrocities unleashed by Israel against unarmed and hapless Palestinians.

The meeting also deplored that despite strong opposition from the people of Sindh, the greater Thal Canal was being constructed. It regretted that the government had allocated sizable funds for the controversial canal project in the federal budget.

It decided to stage a protest march here on July 12 to express solidarity with Palestinians and resentment against the construction of the greater Thal canal.

The meeting also resolved to launch a mass contact campaign and mobilize public opinion against the canal project.

The meeting also constituted organizing committees for different talukas and districts.

Nusrat Hussain Channa presided over the meeting.
