MUZAFFARABAD, July 2: The Muttahida Jihad Council (MJC), an alliance of Kashmiri Mujahideen groups, on Tuesday asked the APHC leaders to take a clear line regarding the polls in the occupied Kashmir and launch an anti-poll drive.

“The All Parties Hurriyat Conference should take a clear, categorical and unequivocal stand regarding the so-called elections in the occupied territory and represent the sentiments of the Kashmiris by launching a vigorous anti-polls campaign,” stated the MJC which comprises 15 fighter groups.

“If the Hurriyat leaders failed to do so and showed reluctance under any pressure, they will lose the position of being the political representatives of the Kashmiris,” it warned.

“The people of Kashmir will then be justified in rejecting the APHC and determining their course (of action) by themselves,” it added.

The warning was given by the MJC in a statement after a meeting in the AJK capital to review the situation in the disputed region in the wake of India’s “plotting to stage election drama.”

The council also made it clear that the purpose of the 55-year-old historical struggle was neither “transfer of power nor achievement of internal autonomy of any kind.”

“The people of Kashmir want complete independence from India. They sacrificed over 90,000 lives and the honour of thousands of women to achieve this goal, and not to bargain for power,” it said.

It issued strong warning to the elements who, it said, would try to achieve their ulterior motives through polls by ignoring the sacrifices of the Kashmiris.

“Betrayal with Kashmir cause will be considered an unpardonable crime and criminals will have to face exemplary punishment,” it declared.

The MJC called upon the Kashmiris to boycott the election drama with full courage and determination and keep a vigilant eye on suspicious elements and not let anyone to play with their interests.

It asked a team of the Muslims sent by Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to the occupied Kashmir not to persuade the Kashmiris to take part in the polls.

“The delegation members should console the oppressed Muslims in the Indian state of Gujarat, who have lost everything at the hands of biased and extremist Hindus.”

“Let it be clear to everyone again that the Kashmiris do not want to live with India, where minorities, including Muslims, are unsafe and the majority Hindu population is at liberty to massacre them.”
